Why Join?

In The Writing Den, you get to start writing what you could never find the time to do before.

You get to play around with language, take risks, and know that everyone is doing the same.

The Writing Den is a structured yet fun space to kick-start your writing in the company of others.

Together we write more, enjoy the pleasure of sharing and being part of a community.

Elizabeth is our writers' whisperer. She gently prompts, challenges, and encourages us to not only make room for creativity on a daily basis, but to trust enough in ourselves to share our stories as we connect with like-minded individuals. Kudos to her for finding the ideal way to bring out the best in us. Many thanks for a wonderful experience!

Olivia Kona, Montreal, Quebec

How It Works

We meet 3 times a month in The Writing Den, through Zoom.

During our time together, I'll take you through a series of short writing exercises and prompts. After I give the prompt, I'll keep track of the time so you can focus on your writing.

After each exercise, I'll invite you to share briefly what you wrote with the rest of us. Sharing is completely optional but encouraged and welcome.

There will also be prompts you can take away with you each week and write a longer piece. Then you can post the piece in our Facebook group for feedback, or share it on our next live call.

Materials Required

Paper, pen, and a quiet, comfortable place to write.

This challenge was fun, inviting and invigorating, and I know for a fact that it has helped me, not only on a writing level, but with my relationship with my creative self. Dawn got her groove back! Thank you, Elizabeth, for such a fun adventure that you clearly took a lot of time to create. Your compassion and caring nature is greatly appreciated by my sensitive self.

I no longer fear writing or sharing my writing with the world and feel very inspired to continue writing daily in order to make concrete progress on my current writing projects. Elizabeth was an incredible source of insight and inspiration.

It felt like oxygen!

Jean-Francois Reynaud, Montreal, Canada

I started out as a discouraged writer, unsure of my voice and through this challenge, I discovered my own unique style of writing as well as my group mates! This gave me confidence to be open, honest and content with my responses to the varied and interesting writing prompts Elizabeth Johnston shared. The process of discovering and writing my answers to these prompts and the support from my peers made all the difference.
